Biography

Robert Clark found his passion in law and decided to make it his profession. While working on his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at Austin, he worked in the State Capitol as a legislative aide in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. He quickly realized that in order to better understand the legislative matters that he was handling, it would require him to obtain a law degree. This led him to law school at South Texas College of Law in Houston, where he became involved in the advocacy program and served as the president of the Student Bar Association.

Robert's first position out of law school was working in Houston for a firm based out of New York handling insurance defense cases. Within the first year, Robert realized that as a lifelong Texas he had a much different approach and philosophy than that of a New York law firm. He decided to go into business for himself, walking down the street one day on his lunch break to the Esperson building, where he signed an office lease and opened shop. He has been working for himself ever since.

Although one of the primary focuses of Robert's practice involves family law cases, The Clark Law Firm also handles a variety of other matters. Robert explains, "The majority of our cases involve the civil and family courts, such as child custody cases, personal injury, and business disputes. However, we also have extensive connections to other areas of the law, and are able to help a client with obtaining the legal representation that they need if it is a matter that we do not handle."

Robert believes that it is very important to be upfront with a client from the beginning of a case. He says, "I discuss with clients the exact situation that they are facing, and what the likely outcome will be at the courthouse. It does not help a client to just tell them what they are wanting to hear, and most folks appreciate that approach. We know all of the courts and judges in Harris County very well, and can help our clients to navigate through what can be a very confusing legal landscape." Robert always tries to give his clients an insight or perspective on their case that they might not have considered, which is especially important in cases that involve children. "Although many cases might seem to be similar at first glance, each client and each family will usually have different needs based on their unique set of circumstances. It is absolutely critical to make sure that the clients and lawyers do not lose their perspective on how their legal fight might affect the children that are involved." Many attorneys fail to consider these factors.

Robert has some very specific advice for anyone that might be headed to the courthouse. He says, "The person who is the best prepared usually has an easier time in court. Many clients come in and expect that their lawyer is supposed to quickly locate a document out of years of paperwork that has been dumped into a few boxes. My advice is to be prepared, organize these materials beforehand, and allow your legal team to focus on representing your interests instead of organizing your file cabinet."

The attorneys at The Clark Law Firm also like to give back to our community in a number of different ways. They have collected household items and clothes over the past few years for some of the less fortunate families that are involved in our legal system. They also teamed up with another law firm after Hurricane Harvey, and collected truckloads of food, water and supplies for some of the hardest hit areas in Southeast Texas. This included providing several days worth of boxed lunches and hot meals for many of the first responders and military personnel working in the Beaumont area.

When Robert isn't working, he can usually be found somewhere around the state either hunting or fishing. He is also very passionate about Texas history, and is a long-time member of the Houston Archeological Society. He spends quite a bit of time in the Trans Pecos and Big Bend areas of Texas, promoting the preservation of archeological sites and photographing the natural beauty of our state.
